Our Nine(9)years old saw a UFO!

Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) in Greenland

Lying in bed with a bottle of wine and reminiscing on the day we had. My hubby turns to me and said "This one was not as crazy as the winter road trip you planned". I looked at him and said I can't believe you two did not give up on me!

When I realized aliens resided in Sisimiut, I had to visit them of course. I was beyond blessed to have my two beautiful beings accompanying me. Dragging them on my hikes, knowing my hubby hates hiking, has led to exciting moments. However,  Likki amazed us both. It's a bit weird when you know you can motivate your child to do anything, and you are still amazed when they do.

Don't Visit Aliens in the Winter

We attempted once during winter to hike to the UFO. We didn't get far! The GPX track I got from a blogger was not accurate. This time the weather was perfect, thus I was determined to reach my destination. I visited hiking.gl and got a tracker. The tracker was excellent, however, the markings on the trail were only helpful on some parts of the trail. Prepare to navigate with your UFO sense, as the markings are unclear. After crossing rivers, feet slurping some deep moss, and wrestling with arctic willows we were able to navigate smoothly.

A Tragedy, Time Out!

We have a tradition of bringing candy bars to extended day trips, to boost Likki's morale. We are not eminent about buying him candy so it's a big deal. Thus, it was a tragedy we forgot and he to have only healthy snacks (REAL TRAGEDY!). He wasn't very happy, yet he was able to pivot after stopping for a snack.

As we moved along, I heard a sound behind me, turned around, and had to pause. Likki realized he had his mini Harp and decided it was time to boost our morale.

His tones reenergized us, especially given Hubby was getting frustrated with the insects as he did not want to wear his mosquito net. Therefore, he, the mosquitoes, and the flies were having a "slapping competition", my leg was aching, and Likki's endless "Are we there yet" question was protruding from our brains!

A View to be Remembered

The last hour of the hike was the best, winding rivers hug between lush mountains spitting out gushing waterfalls, watching a mama bird protect her chicks, and best of all finding a slope of soft snow! I dived into the snow, rolled around a bit, and as you predict we had a snowball fight! The snow felt like we got our favorite cheesecake before dinner! Refreshed, we descended into the valley as our sights settle on our destination.

"We walked all this way for this?!"

In no time we were at UFO,  Likki ran up the ladder, and shouted "We walk all this way for this?!" We found no aliens inside! To be honest I was a bit disappointed as to how filthy the inside was, I guess aliens are not concerned about their hygiene. The panoramic view made up for the filth. Amazed by the view, we forgot about not seeing the aliens. However, the humidity mixed with filth sped up our exit from the structure after a few minutes.

It was a relief to reach the UFO, given the beautiful weather we assumed most of the aliens took their boat out for the day, so we missed saying "Hello" to them. Instead, we had our snacks, Likki decided he wanted to take a walk, and we took a power nap.

To our amazement, we could not find Likki after we woke. Did the aliens come back and take him? No, he's a handful they will return him in a few hours.

For about 10mins, we roam around trying to find him. He was supposed to take a short walk and be back! Hubby decided to look in the spaceship and there he was napping! Relieved, we got out things and headed back to town. Hoping to meet the Aliens next time.

It's an Alien Egg! Bird Egg!

"No silly we are too far away". In no time we were back in Sisimiut after roaming through waist-high Arctic Willows, Moss potholes, jumping over streams, and veering off the trail several times (terrible markings).

We drove into town, with a sac of mushrooms we unexpectedly forged. Although, someone thought it was something else๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„. Perhaps, I will dehydrate the mushrooms and take them for the aliens next time. My UFO sense tells me they will wait around for dehydrated greenlandic mushrooms...

Food for Thought:

  1. During the summer, leave in the afternoon as the sun sets late.
  2. During the winter, leave early to avoid coming back in the dark, or plan to camp.
  3. Wear waterproof boots or waterproof socks no matter the season.
  4. Be aware, this is not a hike for novice kids hikers.
  5. Make sure you prep your kids and bring a motivation tool (I used ROBLOX).
  6. We started our hike at 11:30am and returned at 9:30pm (7 hours to go and 3 hours to return), we stopped several times as we had a 9/yrs old.
  7. Eat a giant Breakfast before you head out (No fast food stands along the way๐Ÿ˜€).
  8. Bring mosquito nets and wear long sleeves unless you have a blood type mosquitoes are not attracted to.
  9. Most important of all bring a positive mindset for a fun hike and great time OUTDOORS!
