"I Love Me?"
I love me? is the first book in the BOYWONDERING series.
Over the last years of child-rearing, I have noticed the decline of resources to help enhance young boys excel throughout their life. As a mother who has benefited immensely from programs geared towards elevating young girls due to historical injustices, which are still impeding growth today, I fully support the need to create accessible space and resources for young girls. Yet, as a society, we have to take precautionary steps not to marginalize boys to create an unattainable equalized system for young girls to progress. We need to strive to leave NO sex behind.
The BoyWondering initiative will focus on boys, and unfold in three mediums:
1. Books (geared towards ages 1-6 years old, each book will discuss Malik's experiences as they unfold between him and the world at large)
2. A blog ( a collection of stories from parents around the world raising or having raised boys).
3. Social Media ( pictures and videos from parents around the world raising or having raised boys).
I love being a mom and exploring my world through the eyes of my child. I believe all parents have unique experiences with their boys, and we can all learn one or two lessons from them, perhaps more!
This space will be the vessel to convey the lived
experiences of individuals raising/raised boys who have acquired the knowledge that can enhance how parents in other communities embrace their experience of child-rearing to help minimize the crisis of boys who will grow up to become men. We seek storytellers from around the world that meet these criteria:
1. Storyteller MUST be an individual who interacted/interacts with a child that was declared male at birth.
2. The main character MUST be a boy.
3. There is no time limit to the story you choose to tell or the medium you choose to utilize.
4. All entries MUST have lessons learned and/or a way forward.
To ensure we gather stories from around the world, please feel free to write in your native tongue. There is no limit to the number of entries one can submit. We will accept all writing styles (poems, short stories, haiku, essays, etc) or artist mediums (videos, pictures, drawings, painting, etc.) once they meet the criteria stated above. We want storytellers to express themselves to the best of their ability. Note stories will be edited and approved by the Storyteller prior to posting. Pictures should accompany stories but are not necessary.
Put your pen to the paper, or your fingers to the keyboard
and send us those lovely stories you have been waiting to tell. Our boys have taught us so much!
Entries can be sent to..... helloboywondering@gmail.com
